Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is best for babies. Breast milk contains all the nutrients a baby needs for healthy development in the first six months of life.Benefits of Breastfeeding:
* Contains the ideal balance of nutrients
* Is easy for a baby to digest
* Is sound easy to give our baby
* Contains antibodies that help babies fight infections
* Prevents constipation
There is growing evidence that in the long term, breastfed babies have some advantages in terms of health and development. Current advice is to remain exclusive breastfeeding for six months. The longer you wean, the greater the benefits.
If you choose not to breast feed, infant formula is the only alternative to breast milk. Your baby will need milk or formula milk until at least one year old. Cow milk is not suitable as a drink until a baby is one years old, because it contains too much salt and protein, and not enough iron and other nutrients; your baby needs to comply.
